History of Polycamp
Polycamp started as a dream of a woman named Theresa B. (aka Tree). She envisioned
a place for families that were polyamorous to come together. It was to be a place
where adults and children alike were welcome.
The first year and second year, Polycamp was held at the Longhouse in Redmond, WA.
The third year, the original location was lost, yet Tree would uphold her vision
for a strong community and to see that Polycamp would continue on. Without a site,
Polycamp had a “Poly Daycamp” which was still strongly supported by the community,
showing that there was a large interest to keep this movement going.
The fourth and fifth years, Polycamp took place North of Seattle, WA at Friday Creek
Campgrounds. Even in those two years, Polycamp was larger than we expected and we
realized the need for a larger site with greater resources.
As of 2009, the site has now settled at Millersylvania State Park which boasts
an incredibly amazing facility. Cabins, Communal hall, Class shelters, an amphitheater,
trails, a lake and wildlife make this site everything we could have ever wished
for. At the end of 2009, Tree stepped down from leading Polycamp in order to allow
someone else to carry the torch.
Up stepped Quintus and Francisca M. With new enthusiasm and tremendous support
already from our community. 2010 and 2011 were amazing years and we look forward
to the growth and new adventures that 2012 will bring. Already, people within our
community are stepping forward to contact us about their enthusiasm about the growth
and direction that Polycamp is now taking. We hope that you will join us this season
and make it one that you or your family will remember forever.
