Myths and Realities of Living with Wolf Hybrids

Presented by Ann Marie Taylor, founder of Huskamutes and Malamutts Assisted By Puppy Daddy Tyler

Join Us for 90 minutes of Exploration and Clarification of common questions about life with wolf hybrids.

Huskamutes and Malamutts started as a bonded family pack, and has evolved into a part family - part rescue haven for wolf hybrids and a few other domestic pups that have migrated their way to us. Our pups are full members of our household, walking with us each day and sleeping inside on the puppy end of the house. The den has sofas, a massage table, and a king size bed that people camp out with the pups each night.

When people ask how this came to be, I reply that this pack was created through a strange combination of ignorance and commitment, in that order.

In 1998, Ann Marie (previously terrified of any type of canine), was introduced to the 8 week old pup who would become Tatoosh, the alpha-male-daddy-dog of the pack. She took him home that day, followed closely by his brother Tieton. Soon after appeared the "mamas" Kolta and Kryla who promptly reproduced like tribbles... 2 litters, 20 pups within three weeks.

At that point Ann Marie's life took a sharp detour from better homes and gardens and mainstream lifestyle to acreage and containment systems. Facing the reality of the incredibly high abandonment and mortality rate of lupine/canine crosses she determined to only adopt pups to homes she knew had had experience with raising a hybrid til the pups natural life expectancy. She found homes for 13 of the 20 pups, keeping 7 plus the four adults and the original pack was formed. She moved out of her city condo, up into the mountains and hand carried water to her camper for nearly 18 months and commuted to work three hours daily as she learned to be pack leader.

Now, 12 years later with an additional 11 canines she's had a chance to learn on the job the truths and myths of life with wolf-domestic crosses. She will introduce you to three of our "ambassador" pups, Tatoosh (alpha male, alaskan husky/gray wolf), Aja (artic wolf and malamute cross), and Louve (Shepard/wolf rescue) and share their stories.

She will talk about her experiences and there will plenty of time for questions about these amazing and challenging creatures. Please, bring your questions and your curiosity and make these creatures feel welcomed and better understood.
